A quarter of a century ago, the Falassi and Orlandi families, resident in the Chianti Classico area for centuries, set up a hotel business in two original sharecropping farmhouses dating back to the 1400s.
Salivolpi stands on the ancient Etruscan site of Salingolpe, just a short walk from the old town of Castellina in Chianti; Belvedere di San Leonino is in the open countryside, surrounded by its vineyards and by the Chianti hills that slope gently to the outskirts of Siena.

The terracotta arches and the original mangers remind us of when this place was still a stable, home to domestic animals, oxen and horses.

Super Tuscan and Chianti Classico wines, as well as cocktails prepared by the barman, are served to guests on comfortable sofas arranged into exclusive little lounge areas. Wine corner, air conditioning, 55-inch flat screen TV, two internet-points and WI-FI coverage.

Cosy and comfortable rooms, each distinguished by their Tuscan country style furnishings, open beam ceilings, terracotta floors, antique furniture, wrought iron beds and attention to detail. Some are in the main farmhouse, while others are in the annex, and all of them are classified according to size, position and the view from the windows. Typical Tuscan food is served in the exclusive restaurant, “Il Cortile”, accompanied by the wines made on our estate, as well as the finest labels of the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero, Montalcino and Montepulciano production zones. Using fresh and seasonal products, every day our chefs prepare traditional country recipes dating back to when our hotel was still a farmhouse.

In summer, dinner is served in the garden “under the stars”, where guests can admire a beautiful view of San Gimignano and enjoy unique and unforgettable sunsets. For those who wish to spend the day by the pool, we offer a light lunch, with fresh and delicious summer dishes served in the yard, which overlooks the pool and the Chianti hills.

Under the Tuscan sun, directly overlooking the Chianti landscape, the pool and the Jacuzzi are the perfect place from which to enjoy an all-round view, where vineyards and hills chase each other, sloping gently down towards Siena and Monteriggioni. Equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers, tables and chairs and a WI-FI service, it is the ideal place to relax during your holiday or to recharge your batteries after spending all day visiting art towns or country villages, the wineries of Chianti and of the neighbouring areas.

The Estate
The hotel is surrounded by its 7 hectares of Chianti Classico Gallo Nero vineyards, 3 hectares of olive grove and 2 hectares of seed crops and woods. At an altitude of 450 metres above sea level, in soils consisting of “Galestro” marl and “Alberese” limestone, the grape varieties cultivated are mainly Sangiovese and complementary varieties like Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Trebbiano and Malvasia; an excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil is produced from approximately 300 olive trees. It is possible to taste our wines and oil at the hotel or directly at “Cantinetta del Belvedere di San Leonino”.
The “Cantinetta” is in the heart of old Castellina, in the medieval Via delle Volte; set in an old cellar, dating back to before 1400, it offers its customers guided tastings of a selection of the best Chianti Classico, IGT and Super Tuscan local wines, paired with typical local products and accompanied by seminars on the history of the area and the techniques used in the production of Chianti Classico wine and extra virgin olive oil.
